Balakrishna Biography


Nandamuri Balakrishna fondly called by his fans as Balayya needs no introduction. Nandamuri Balakrishna was born on June 10, 1960 to Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao and Basava Tarakam. Balakrishna has seven brothers Swargiya Rama Krishna, Jaya Krishna, Hari Krishna, Mohana Krishna, Sai Krishna, Rama Krishna, Jaya Shankar Krishna, and four sisters Uma Maheswari, Bhuvaneswari, Lokeswari, Purandheswari. Balakrishna is married to Vasundhara Devi and has one son Tarakarama Mokshagna Teja and two daughters Brahmini and Tejaswini.

Balakrishna's elder daughter Brahmini was married to Nara lokesh, son of Nara Chandrababu Naidu who is the president of Telugu Desam Party and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Balakrishna entered into film industry at the age of 14. In 1974, Tatamma Kala movie was Directed by NTR and marked his debut on the silver screen. Over a period of time he acted in several films, many of them were directed by NTR. In 1984 Balakrishna debuted in a hero role with Sahasame Jeevitham.

Balakrishna acted in a movie called annadammula anubandham, a remake of Dharmendra's hindi hit yadonki barat at the age of 16. Upon watching this movie, the other legend of the Telugu film industry Sri. ANR's comment was "simham kadupuna simham puttindi". Interestingly Balakrishna acted in a brother's role to his real life father in that movie as well as in "roudi ramudu konTe krshnudu", and in a son's role to his real life brother Hari Krishna in the movie "dAna veera Sura karNa". Balakrishna won the hearts of many people for his role of "aBimanyuDu" in that movie, which also had his legendary father dominating most of the scenes in a triple role. In the year 1984, Balakrishna acted in 3 blockbusters, "mangamma gAri manavaDu", "kathAnAyakuDu" and his home production "Sri madvirat potuluri vIrabrahmendra svami caritra".

In the year 1984 Balakrishna starred in Mangamma Gari Manavadu, "Kathanayakudu", and Shrimad Virat Veerabrahmendra Swami Charitra, all the three were commercially successful at the Box-office. In the year 1986, all Balakrishna's six films was success at the Box-office. Later, Balakrishna has worked in a number of critically and commercially successful films such as Muddula Krishnnayya (1986), Muddula Mavayya (1989), Lorry Driver (1990), Aditya 369 (1991), Roudy Inspector (1992), Bhairava Dweepam (1994) for which he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu) , Peddannayya (1997), Samarasimha Reddy (1999), Narasimha Naidu (2001) earned him Nandi Award for Best Actor, and 'Cine Goers Association's best actor award, Lakshmi Narasimha (2004), panduranga (2008) earned him Santosham Best Actor Award, Simha (2010) and Balakrishna has established himself as one of the best actors ever in Telugu cinema.

Balakrishna has acted in social, devotional, Comedy, folk, mythological roles.

Balakrishna was involved in shooting controversy. The incident took place on June 3, 2004 around 20:50 hrs at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. It is alleged that the actor has fired shots at the producer B.Suresh and his associate, Satyanarayana Chowdhary. Later both the wounded were admitted into Apollo hospital. The circumstances under which the case was handled led to much controversy as purported by the Human Right Forum (HRF). The HRF has questioned the authenticity of people who handled the case, and the circumstances under which the actor was shielded from police by giving refuge in the CARE Hospital with out any justifiable cause.The two victims have given statements before the magistrate alleging that actor has fired shots at them during their treatment in the hospital but soon they were retracted and made volte-face of their earlier statements. The actor was arrested later on June 6 at around 3:30 AM and produced before fifth Metropolitan Magistrate. A show cause notice was also served on Bala Krishna's wife Smt. Vasundhara Devi (married: 1982) as the weapon used was licensed under her name and she could not give sufficient protection to her licensed weapon. But later the actor was granted bail..
